Almost everyone here uses a different way to defend they’re own pc.
Post your way:
Anti Virus Software:
NOD32 (Not free)
AVG (Free Edition)
SpyWareBlaster (Free)
SpyBot Search&Destroy (Free)
Tuneup utilities (Not free)
Way’s of use:
NOD32 is my main and real time scanner, meaning it is always on.
AVG is normally shut down, it uses a shit load of RAM so i turned the Real time scanner off... i only use it once a month for a full scan.
SpyWare Blaster and Spybot Search & Destroy are also always on, i only use Spybot for the Tea Timer. If you or something else like a virus changes something in the registry, Tea Timer shows you an message so you can confirm or block the change.
And last TuneUp Utilities 2007, it has allot of functions including things like CCleaner. I use it before and after a full virus scan.
Way’s of avoiding infection:
With Microsoft Virtual PC i made a dummy OS of the Windows I’m currently using, it has most of the program’s, drivers and anti virus software as my normal Windows. If i think something is infected i just open or install it with the dummy Windows first.
Second and most important way is not to download crap, things called: "Free Cracks" or porn from the first site you get when using google...

once every three months? What do you get upto during your online activities? My guess would be loads of porn and illegal crackz, hacks, and progz, if it’s that bad!
My main method of virus protection is the same as mortified penguins, smart interneting. I also normally have AVG running in the background but like you I turned it off yesterday cause I’m sick of it. It never alerts me to anything (cause of my smart internetting!) all it does it annoy me when it updates its list every fucking day, and then sits there and eats up all my RAM.
I also always had Super Anti Spyware running but turned that off too.
I recently got a pretty bad virus/trojan that isnt well known, doesnt have a name, and none of my standard programs would pick up on it. It was a right bastard, but I managed to get rid of it. I got it when I was looking to download free mp3 albums, it installed itself without me knowing about it and plagued me for a good couple of weeks before I managed to get rid of it.
I’ve only had to re-install windows twice I think, once was cause I was messing about with windows stuff and accidentally deleted a vital file which lets you login. As soon as I pressed log-in it would flash up my desktop for 1 sec before logging me straight back out. The other time was in my hacking days where I somehow catastrophically fucked it up. That was my mum’s pc too, she wasnt happy.

I used to use Norton (since it came with my computer) but that let in a Trojan called Vundo on my desktop that was never fully taken care of. Its been over a year but there aren’t any serious issues because of it.
On my laptop I use Webroot Spysweeper and I’ve haven’t been infected since I started using it.

I also call it pebkac
Here’s an interesting way to defend your pc...
create a user account with no privileges and use it to surf the interwebz. Exe files have no rights and can’t install. If something does get through, use system restore.
